I really don't know about this quote. What if those fifty enemies have spears, or machine guns? Seems to me that one friend wouldn't be much of an antidote. It all depends on the situation.
Or, let's say that you have fifty people gunning for you to be fired from work. One friend probably wouldn't make much difference, unless he or she is your boss. Or the president of the company.
Face it. The antidote for fifty enemies is fifty well-armed friends.
You didn't take into account that I am your friend. I can handle at least fifty two enemies in just about any situation.
